UK : Fully Funded Studentships For Autumn 2010 Entry The University of Manchester - Sustainable Consumption Institute Closing Date: Friday 26th February 2010 Applications open for SCI DTC 4 year fully funded PhD Studentships for autumn 2010 entry. These scholarships cover tuition fees), plus a UKRC equivalent maintenance stipend, for a period of 4 years. Around 5 UK/EU and 5 international scholarships are expected to be awarded on a competitive basis to candidates holding 1st Class Bachelors and/or Distinction at Masters, or equivalent. The Sustainable Consumption Institute (SCI) at The University of Manchester is an innovative research institute where scholars are working at the interface between the worlds of business and society. PhD studies are central to our research capacity building. SCI doctoral graduates will be uniquely qualified to make contributions in many emerging areas of activity aligned with the challenges of sustainable development. Our doctoral students receive four full years of funding and the opportunity to work across disciplines with world class researchers at The University of Manchester. DTC students will become a member of a global community of early career researchers in the growing field of sustainable consumption. Entry requirements Candidates must hold a 1st Class Bachelors and/or Distinction at Masters, or equivalent. The Institute's research includes the following cross-disciplinary themes in the context of sustainable consumption: 1. Sustainable Consumer Behaviours and Lifestyles 2. Sustainable Production and Distribution Systems - technologies, skills and resources 3. Climate change and carbon - mitigation, adaptation and vulnerability 4. Making development more sustainable - synergies with other issues (eg. poverty, energy, water, food, environment, health, and others).
