  1. As Belgium historian Konraad Elst points out, "Muslim fanatics are merely faithful executors of Quranic injunctions. It is not the Muslims who are guilty, but Islam". Thus, the Taliban, who want to restore the early purity of Islam, really thought they were performing a righteous act by destroying the "heathen" Buddhist statues. Quran:Sura 5:51: “O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: they are but friends and protectors to each other. And he among you that turns to them for friendship is of them.” I mean to ask ,, why the Holy books of the Islam has to Spread Hate , against other faiths by Name calling ??? Is that the True religion feeling so unsecured , that such things against Jews and Christians were doctrined into the Holy Books ? I remember the MASJID in Kathmandu on every friday; their numbers are increasing. NEPAL WILL ONE DAY SUFFER FROM TERRORISM OR WE HAVE TO GIVE IT A SERIOUS THINKING NOW. OH! unfortunately we have the habit of waiting till the tumor becomes cancer and we will have no other option than to suffer AND die. POLITICIANS ARE SPOILING THE COUNTRY IN THE NAME OF SECULARISM. The major cause of unrest and massacres in 2008 around the world was due to ISLAM and its terrorism. WHO SAYS THAT ALL THE RELIGIONS TEACHES PEACE? ISLAM TEACHES TERRORISM AND HATE. IF someone wants proof then open and read Quran. NEPAL WAS A HINDU COUNTRY AND SHOULD REMAIN A HINDU COUNTRY IF PEACE IS DESIRED.

    Ashok Bhattarai

May be Something is better than nothing. May be It is better to have atleast one case highlighted than to have zero case highlighted. Lets think it this way: Why do you want other cases to be highlighted? Now that we know about the case of Ashok, what good thing did we do with that information/news? What is the use of such highlight? This highlight will neither reduce the pain suffered by his parents, family or friends. So this highlight was useless for them. We nepalese also can not use this highlight as a point to force the government to make some laws and regulations that will protect other nepali students abroad. So it was useless for all the other nepali students studying abroad because their chances to die the death of Ashok are still the same. I don't know whos eyes were opened by this news/highlight. We nepalese are blind, deaf and sleeping so no matter how many cases are highlighted, no matter how much noise the media makes nobody will wake up from the sleep. We can only do insurgency to bring Girija or Prachanda to power, we can't do something good to help a common man. May be His death was profitable for few media person.
  3. Fear is an essential component of all living minds(humans or animals). Those who don't have fear are either dead or they don't have mind at all. As per Arjun in Mahabharata, Bravery is not the absence of fear but it is the realization that there is some thing more important than fear. Brave people also have fear but they still go forward in battle because they think that living a moment of dignity is more important than living a full life of shame. So even the bravest people fear to lose their life and fear is a mandatory emotion of human mind. So I don't agree with Ravindranath Tagore; becaue I believe that there is no place where the mind is without fear. Knowledge is never and nowhere free. The meaning of knowledge is to know that there is still something beyond the boundry of knowledge. We achieve one frontier of knowledge only to know that there is still a lot to be explored. So knowledge is always bounded by ignorance. When you light a torchlight, there is umbra in the centre and penumbra is surrounding it. So knowledge is like the bright umbra that is always surrounded by dark penumbra of ignorance. Thats why knowledge gives rise to humility. World has never been broken by narrow domestic walls. This line shows that Ravindranath Tagore's view was very shortsighted. If he could mentally rise up and see the world from a satellite, then he could know that no matter how high a wall people make between themselves, still the earth remains one. For a person who has risen to a great height, the walls disappear. From moon you can see only one earth. No words come from the depths of truth because at depth there is only silence and peace. Once a man came to Gautam Buddha and asked buddha whether he had seen God or not. He asked Buddha to describe how the GOD looks like? But Buddha remained silent. The man was annoyed and he left the place cursing Buddha as fraud. Buddha later told to his pupil that if that man couldn't understand the meaning of silence, he couldn't understand the meaning of words. He told that whatever a person says about god is all false because god is something who can't be described in words. Nomatter how good you explain about god, it still becomes untrue. Because god can't be bound in words. So god(truth) can be achieved, described or explained only by silence(meditation).
  4. THANK YOU EVERYBODY. Happy Vijayadashami and Dipawali to all of you.
  5. Congratulation, Engineering in Strthclyde is best recognised. It is a very good department. I have got copuple of friends who did their Masters and Ph.D from there and are now teaching in good universities in UK an some are working in the industry. I am not from enginering, so i wouldn't be able to tell you about course and in more detail about the job prospects. But I have seen good product from there. Thank you very much. As per your advice I applied myself without any agent and got the offer. But to apply for visa, I think that I have to take an agent. What do you think? Is it tough to get visa? I have also applied to Dundee and is waiting for their decision. In case I will get an offer from Dundee also, what to do? Now,since I have already got the offer, so I want to try for getting some financial assistance(atleast partial) from the university. How should I proceed for it? Please advise.

  7. I got an unconditional offer letter for MSc in Subsea engineering. I am currently looking for information about this course and its scope(job-wise) in uk. Someone please help me!
  8. To study MSc in UK, the colleges/universities are asking for a Second-Class Honours degree in an appropriate discipline or an overseas equivalent. What is the Nepalese equivalent for this Second Class Honours degree? Can some one please explain to me?
  9. I don't think they will accept IELTS 6.5 for Ph.D. Check it with the University, it could be 7 or 7.5 And also, try to find perspective supervisor who has interetst in your issue. That is the fast track fro Ph. D. For Masters you have to follow the normal program anyway. If you are looking for funsing as well, then check at jobs.ac.uk if any Universities are advertising GTAship or Research fellowship in the area. Good luck Thank you all for your comments and informations. I think I had written that I want to do MSc (not Ph.D). I got 101 in TOEFL(iBT) which is equivalent to 7 in IELTS:this is well above the score required by the universities for my purpose. I want to know whether making an online application solely by myself or applying through an Educational agency/consultancy would be better in terms of chances of being admitted to a good university. Does applying through an agency/consultancy give better credibility to my application? Applying through Agency or consultance sometime damage the credibility depending upon the previous students came through that channel. But if you apply yourself, your application will be looked onto on your own personal circumstances. So I would strongly advise you to approach yourself. Moreover, if you aplly yourself, you might be able to request for funding if available, but if you are applying through an agency, most university will not consider funding requests. To be honest, good Universities in UK will not have such a thing called "authentic agent". They migh tbe working with some consultancies but they do not have any inflence in slection process. The so called agent will have relationship with international office in most of the Universities but selections are made by the actual department. I have closely seen student recruitment and selection process on which most of the students who apllied on their own with good academic background got preference. Agency or consultancies are alwyas a money making business. If it is something like foundation or undergraduate level, it is good to apply through an agency not for Postgraduate. You seems to have a very good academic backgroud. So apply on your own. To study MSc in Newcastle Univ, they require Second-Class Honours degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent. What is the meaning of this Second-Class Honours degree? Please explain to me if you know.
  10. The best thing for Nepal right now is to effectively connect Nepal with China by road so as to minimise our complete dependency on India. If we have a good road between China and Nepal, then we will have more options. But unfortunately there is none. Road can be built only through Tibet so the solution of the conflict between Tibet and China is good for Nepal. China should also give free access to Nepalis and Nepalis should be allowed to enter China without passport; similar to the India. Many a time, Nepal Oil Corporation goes in loss and Government has to bail it out. NOC is selling petrol/diesel in high prices but even then it goes in loss everytime and government has to bail it out. Why does that happen? If the Management of NOC is incapable of running it effectively, then they should be replaced. Nepal seems to have decayed from the roots. Right now in Nepal those who can't do anything else do politics. Now the so called Student organizations affiliated to various parties are also fighting each other and curfew is being imposed because of them. These youth organizations are full of criminals, dadas and gundas and they are supported by the political parties. Right now our neighbours India and China are going through industrialization. America and Europe had gone through it 100 years ago. When will Nepal reach this stage? Now there is an Oil pipeline being built between from Iran to India through Pakistan. Why can't that pipeline reach Nepal. From that pipeline a branch should be given to Nepal. Without enough oil no country can develop. Young leaders who have vision for nation building think that the only way to develop Nepal is through Remittance. So those who are capable should go abroad and then send as much money as they can to Nepal. There is no other way to develop Nepal. Only those who can't do anything remain in Nepal and do politics. But these scum-bags should atleast not destroy the national properties that are being made out of the remittances sent by NRNs.
  11. We nepalis have a habit of making a lot of excuses. Just now the Olympics games finished, nepal participated as ever, still no medals. We will keep on saying that participating is winning! Great answer/excuse! Our players will say that they don't have enough facilities, enough resources for training bla bla bla! Recently an Indian boxer won a bronze medal in Olympics, I think he is the son of a poor driver or farmer. There are some African countries which are very poor, and their athletes get medals. Better stop participating in the games. Why should we waste money to participate in the games? Are our players bhatays? A little bhedbhawo ta jaha pani huncha. Everywhere there is some discriminations only the type/form is different.Even in the most developed country, america, you see the black and white discriminations. White people don't usually marry blacks and blacks don't usually marry white. Black and white conflict is there since the very early times -but still the country has developed so much. Now both Black and white can proudly say that they are Americans and enjoy the benefits of being a citizen of a developed country. So is it fair to say that Nepal hasn't developed because of the discrimination? We are only sustaining ourselves on the foreign aid and foreign helps. We have to beg to international donors to repair a broken dam, we have to beg to international donors to feed a person in Jumla to build a hospital in Mugu. We have all become beggars, the country of Amar Singh Thapa & Bhakti Thapa has become a beggar. Has Girija, Makune,Ranas & Monarch have really made our country a beggar ? In america one person can't be president for more than 2 times. Is there any rule, regulation, law like that in Nepal? America knows that change is vital for the development and Politicians are like diapers who should be changed constantly. Small landlocked country. If India blocks the borders , no imports , no exports and we die of hunger. How can Nepal develop if somebody(suppose Prachanda or Baburam) truly wants to develop it? Does development come along with power? Should we start building Nuclear power?
  12. Dear Thirdpole, it is for you and for the information of all the others. The "Uk university league table 2008 published by Times online good university guide 2008" shows Newcastle in 23rd place and Dundee in 50. So overall Newcastle is better than Dundee. But the living cost in Dundee is very less as compared to Newcastle. Also if you see the job prospects for the Civil engineering graduates, Dundee has 9 out of 10 ,while Newcastle has only 7 out of 10 of its graduates placed in job after graduation. Whether an university is good or bad depends upon lots of factors. For me even if Newcastle is ahead of Dundee in the overall picture, Dundee is far better for studying Civil engineering because it has a record that 100% of its graduates got job after completion of the course last year. On the other hand, Newcastle has a very good reputation for the Subsea & Marine related courses. So a university which might be good for someone may be bad for somebody else. It depends upon the subject which you want to study, Job prospects, tuition costs, living costs etc. Ok now what I want to know is that after finishing the MSc there in UK, how many years do I have to stay in UK to get the UK passport and citizenship? Do I have to stay in UK continuously for those years(for example 5 or 6 years may be). What if I have to go back to nepal for some emergency purpose? You are right about University rating. Also check hero.ac.uk which is RAE (Research Assessment exercise) based. I know this is crap system but it is known as reliable one. 2008 RAE report is coming out soon but you can see 2001 RAE report for particular departments. UK Passport or citizenship. It doesn't really work that way. When you finish your masters, you will be given 2 year leave to remain under International Graduate Scheme (I hope it is not changed in this April/May), within that either you need to find a job and get work permit or you might be able to switch to Highly Skilled. In any case you will have to stay in UK for 5 year to apply for Indifinite leave to remain and once you get ILR, a year more to be eligible to apply for Passport. Your stay as student won't be counted for the purpose fo indifinite leave to remain. If you are under Highly skilled and if you have to leave UK for any reason you can come back to UK within 2 year and you have to start that 5 year again. If you are leaving UK for less than 90 days that doesn't effect. if it is more than 90 days, I suppose you have to complete that 90 days. if you are in work permit, once you leave the job you are given work permit, you will loose right to abode as well. It is bit complicated. I don't really work on that area although I am in Law School. There are couple of people in WNSO who works in those area. I hope they will reply you clearly. Thank you very much.
  13. Now in Arabia , it is the Holy Month of Ramadan. Muslim brothers, sisters and friends are fasting. Quite a few times I was asked by some of my friends why I do not fast? Its "haram" not to fast and those who commit haram are "haramis". I told them that I am a Hindu and yes we too do fasting but not on this time of the year. Sometimes I have to tolerate derogatory remarks that I belong to the same religion who pray cows and monkeys. I told one of them that YES I belong to the religion in which cows, monkeys, trees, fish, snakes and all the living being as well as the non living things like rivers, montains, sky, earth, sun, moon and the whole nature and universe are prayed. In our view, prayer is a form of communication and in prayer we make request. One day in a year we pray to snakes, one day we pray the dog, one day we pray to cow, we pray to montain(Govardan parbat). In our prayer we thank them for sharing the world with us. We request them to keep on living with us in the world and keep on making the world a beautiful place to live merely by their existence. We tell them that the world would be an ugly place if they were not there. We pray because we think that we should be able to pray to those also who are physically and mentally inferior to us. Merely because they are less strong then us doesn't mean that they deserve to be treated cruely. Merely because they are not as clever as us doesn't mean that they are less dignified then us. Merely because they can't invent atom bomb to destroy the earth doesn't mean that they don't deserve respect. We not only pray to some supernatural highly powerful being called god because of the fear that he might bring misfortune to us if we don't pray to him. But along with the Powerful god we pray to the powerless creatures of the universe also. We respect them all and we thank them all. To us prayer is not something done to a stronger supernatural being, out of fear of being punished, to us prayer is the expression of our love for the incapable because we think that the so called incapables are actually contributing more to the nature than us. In Gita, Shree Krishna told that those who don't respect the religion and beliefs of others, can't respect me. Our god himself was a simple shepard. We can pray to king and we can pray to a Shepard. This is us & this is our religion. We respect the muslims, the christians and all the other religions also as much as w e respect Hindu religion. We don't thrust, we don't force our beliefs on you. You are free to fast in Ramadan but you shouldn't force others to fast. We pray to all the human beings to coexist peacefully and in harmony with each other and in harmony with the mother Nature. No country in the world is a Hindu country today, this is an example of the liberal nature of us. We don't believe in seggregation, we don't believe in separation, we believe in unity. We believe in winning the hate by love. This is the philosophy behind praying the cows and the monkeys, which unfortunately even most of the Hindus don't know today.
  14. Saathi, jaat bhat ko pachadi pani education nai cha. When the people become educated then it will automatically vanish to some extent. But bihwaha lai matrai behdbhawo ko kasauti ko rup ma lina mildaina. In usa,we can see that the next president might be an african american. So as long as all the casts get equal opportunity and equal rights as a citizen of a country we can't tell it is unfair if a Bahun doesn't want to marry Gurung. Bahuns also can complain that why only Gurungs,Chettris,Magars,Rais and Limbus are recruited in the British army and Indian Army. Even in the Nepali army,Gurungs,Magars or Chettris are preferred to Bahuns. So the problem is not whether a person of one cast wants or doesn't want to marry the person of another cast - the problem is whether all the casts are given equal opportunity in all the sectors or not. There was a Gurung boy who was topper in my College and I felt proud to be near him. Some discrimination will always be there and thats not bad as long as all have equal rights to choose and all have equal rights as a citizen. Infact I think that there should be some discrimination which will increase the competition for development. We should take things positively. In today's world we can't make any pretext for being unsuccessful. We nepalis have the habit of making a lot of excuses. Our players can't get any medal in Olympic because they say they don't have enough resources; there are lots of poor African athletes who have made it big in international games. Even the recent Olympic bronze medal winning boxer of India,Vijender Singh, is the son of a poor driver. He could complain that he didn't have money for diets and enough resources for training or may be he could say that he had to face racial discriminations so he couldn’t perform well incase he had failed. But no, he proved that even if a person is poor he can do good if his dedication and will is strong enough. We nepalis have become bhatay! So we nepalis can develop only when we become educated and we stop making excuses for being unsuccessful. What we need in Nepal from the beginning is political stability. No ism can develop a country. It is not ism that develops the country,it is the right person in power who develops the country. If one person can't do good when he is in power then he should be replaced immediately. If Girija can't do, we should try Prachanda, if Prachanda can't do , we should try somebody else. Somebody rightly said, Politicians are like diapers so we should keep on changing them.We should not stick to favouring one political party even if it is doing no good to the development of the country. We should not judge a leader by his party, we should judge a leader by himself. Britain is a monarchy to some extent still it has developed and USA is a republic and still it has developed, but we nepalis couldn't develop when we were monarchy, we couldn't develop when we were democracy now we are Republic and its time to see whether we will develop or not. We nepalis have become beggar in the international society. India has cut the supply of fuels and we can't do anything but to beg india to increase the supply. No matter who is the prime minister, who is the commander of Nepal army, who is the President, collectively we all nepalis are beggars. We are only sustaining ourselves on the foreign aid and foreign helps. We have to beg to international donors to repair a broken dam, we have to beg to international donors to feed a person in Jumla to build a hospital in Mugu. We have all become beggars, the country of Amar Singh Thapa & Bhakti Thapa have become a beggar. Sorry Amar Singh U died for nepal and now Girija, Makune,Ranas & Monarch have made your country a beggar. Most of the doctors in New york are Indians, most of the top management in Middle East are Keralites, most of the labourers and housemaids in Middle east are Nepalis. Earlier Nepalis were known for Bravery, the connotation of Gurkha was a soldier but now Gurkha connotes Labourers. People in India think Bahadur means Gate keeper. What is the cause of this situation? In kerala, literacy is 99%, how much is the literacy in Nepal? Still we don't value the importance of education! Let the Everest melt if it can be used to irrigate a land to feed a dying child. Nepal is not everest, nepal is not a land, nepal is a thought,a progressive idea, nepal is sacrifice of few and begging bowl of many. Some beg in the name of cast, some beg in the name of religion, some beg in the name of political ideology, some beg in the name of gender. When the world is making technological and industrial inventions we are making inventions of new ways to beg! We were not conquered by British India, but that doesn’t matter now. No need to boast that British couldn’t conquer us. We sometimes boast that Indians were slaves of British but we were not. But now Indians are free and powerful(they are atomic power) and we are present in all the developed countries to wash the dirty dishes; of British, of Koreans, of Japanese, of Arabs, of Indians and all.
