1st Victoria cross won by Gurkha hero Agansing Rai will be sold in auction that is being held on July 22nd.

If he haven chose a path of luxury he could have sold it but it never occured to him. He lived in two room house with his wife and children in the village of Amsara in eastern Nepal, 3 days walk from KTM.

He died at the age of 80. After 4 years of his death, his VC is being sold. It is a first Gurkha VC ever to be sold at auction and it is likely to fetch at leat £110,000.

Money will be given to a charity which provides welfare and education for the country's desperate children.

I read in some paper where his 2 sons and 3 daughters want that money to be given to charity in Nepal.

I do salute to this tiger.

Is Victoria Cross Britain's highest gallantry award? How many Gorkha soldiers won this award?

I also heard that Gurkha soldiers had won many VCs. but I don't know more about this issue. A long ago I read somewhere that there were more than 25 Gurkha rifle regiments but currently I found only eleven Gurkha rifle Regiments. 2nd Gurkha Rifles, 6 Gurkha rifle, 7 Gurkha rifle and 10 Gurkha rifles are under the Britis Government and others are under an Indian government.
