Posted 13 March 2003 - 08:45 PM
I read in few sites it says the same thing you asked me to do but unfortunately nothing work. I used netconfig command and gave IP address but it started checking something and said no device something like that.
The intresting part is, I was getting mad for trying so many times and just restarted the computer, used netconfigur command, and able to give it IP address. Now I can ping other computer again.
Still don't know something wrong with me or my computer. Really strange. Thanks for your help rs_1915.

Is there a way we can setup Linux server to communicate with Windows 2000 Server using NetBOIS name Where I want Windows 2000 to be my primary DNS server?
OK here we go..
I hope you are using Fix IP address on Linux Computer.
First create DNS record (Host record and PTR record) for linux computer on DNS server manually.
assume your Windows 2000 Server name is Server1 and IP address is 192.168.1.2
Linux computer name is Linux1 and IP address is 192.168.1.5
and Domain name is intranet.local.com
edit /winnt/system32/driver/etc/hosts file
Add this line
192.168.1.5 Linux1.intranet.local.com Linux1
save that file
On linux computer
Use netconf command and
configure :- Basic Host Configuration, Name Server Specification and Domain Name Server.
That is quite simple just add the appropriate information.
use vi /etc/hosts
add one more record
192.168.1.2 Server1.intranet.local.com Server1
Configure Samba to share files.
