I have simple ethernet 10/100 network connected with three computers at my home. The main computer has broadband Internet, which is shared by all other computers. The main computer is Windows XP OS and remaining two is Windows ME OS. The printer hp officejet d135 (3 in 1 printer with scanner & fax) is connected to the main computer (Win XP) with the USB port. This printer works fine with this main computer. I have selected to share that printer in the network. When I try to install this printer in other computer i.e. WIN ME, I browsed it and selected it, then it says "This printer is off line, you can install it but use it later....(something)", it installed. But, it never shows the printer is online so I am not able to use it by other computer in the network. However, there is another printer (hp Deskjet) connected to the WIN Me computer which can be used from any computer in the network. I have done installing networks, installing printers so many times in my life but this has been completely strange to me. I would appreciate if anyone could give me idea to overcome this problem so that everyone in my simple network can use it. Even if it can only print , it will be great! Many Thanks!

Have you install the driver for Window ME in the Print Server i.e your XP computer?

Install the driver first.
In your XP computer
- Logon as administrator or a user account that has administrator rights.
- Setting
- Printers
- High light the printer
- Click the right mouse
- Select Propreties
- Click on sharing tab
- double click on additional driver
- check the box for Windows 95, 98, and ME
- Click OK
- Insert your printer CD

then you know what to do.....

Hope this helps.....

Rajen bhai,
You must disable Windows XP's Internet Connection Firewall .
If it's enabled on a LAN, it will block File and Printer Sharing

To disable Internet Connection Firewall
- Go to start
- Settings
- Double click on Network Connections to open that folder
- Right click the desired connection
- Click Properties.
- Click the Advanced tab
- Un-check Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet.

Hope this helps...

Cheers
