About A level!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

let me get right off to the bat, i drop my +1 , it has already been 4 years then, i still tried for learning and keep pushing hard for A level, with out any councelling er guidencec, actually i hav been doing Physics Chemisty and Maths of course the Gp is compulsary, I find tht hard it is not because of the syllabus but actually because of the lack of material i guess, I firmly believe i can get over it despite the execuses(i mean the scarcity of materials and resources). As a candidate it is hard to find a good tutor i did join Some private institution and hav taken the 3 papers where i get over Physics and Mathematics it's actually fail Yes i got Es!

Now i am really fed up, Since then the iferior complexity has really killing me, i am really afraid to retake,

wht should i do? shall i retake? chosse easier subjectS? if i choose i know it will be even harder to be comfortable in other subjects! what shall i do ..... ?

I know and believe there r lot of dude who are eager to help me ..

waithing for Your Ideas thought they will be da tablets of healing for me

Choose subjects you like most and you are comfortable with. And take admission to some college for regular studies. It seems self study is too early for you.

Since you've alredy started those subjects, it's be foolish to chose different subjects and start all over again. Retaking them is a good option, there's nothing shameful about retaking subjects which you haven't done so well in.

I did chemistry and maths and the only way of combating those topics is blind learning...who cares whether you understand them or not, there's no way of ever understanding organic chem that's for sure. What i learnt from doing my A levels is that you might know the things, but what it boils down to is exam techniques. Doing A levels is completely different to doing SLC where you can write rubbish and no one would care. The first thing to do is what board of exams are you sitting, each board have their own specific set of questions, and then get hold of those past papers and practise through them. the great about doing past papers is that majority of the questions always reappear, as they have a bank of questions and tend to choose some out of random. The next thing is to find revision books specific to that board. But i can see you moaning...books eh!!! how about websites:

http://www.revision-notes.co.uk/A_Level/ (i used this site for chemistry!!)

http://www.nabss.org/gcse.htm

http://www.s-cool.co.uk/default.asp

there's no other way of getting through A levels sadly, unless you've got photographic memory, the only way is to knuckle down and learn it all.

The good thing about it is you can forget it all the next day after exams--unless you have to resit them again. I have officially forgotten every damn thing i ever knew in chemistry and maths!!!

yeah that's what i mean cambridge board or whichever is used by your school. find all the question papers, and as you sit down doing the past papers, you'll notice a pattern, you'll see that most of the questions are familiar. With A levels unlike SLC, you have to be able to produce answers specific to the questions. the questions tend to have certain marks assigned to them and you must get that particular answer, there's no wishy washiness about it, no "maile answer thoke". if you learn everything properly, the answers to the questions will flow. but i guess knuckling down is the hard part....but we've all been through it.

i guess you have to learn thinking i'm going to get through it this time as supposed to if it gets f**ked up i'll resit them. there's no point resitting it a zillion times, that's just wasting time. and don't change subjects this far in your academic career, you'll have lost so much time, it genuinely is foolishness.

and who cares about resitting exams...you have plenty of time. you're retaking them in oct..you have 8 months, you can learn all the course inside out! if you have any problems let me know, my sister is doing A levels too. I'm of no help to her, like i said earlier on, i've officially forgotten everything i ever learnt in A levels. may be we can help with exam techniques in chemistry and maths...though i doubt the maths bit!!

About further education after your Alevels...there's absolutely tonnes and tonnes of things you can do with physics, chemistry and maths...the world's your oyester (sp??!!)! you can become a doctor and engineer, any god damn thing, but you have to do well in those subjects. how about getting through your exams first, see how your revision goes along and then make decisions on what you want to specialise in, you don't have to sort admissions out in quite late in the year!
