Intern - Asia Pacific Mountain Network

Background:

The Asia Pacific Mountain Network (APMN) is the Asia-Pacific node of the

Mountain Forum, and a network, mainly electronic and online, of diverse

institutions and individuals committed to information exchange and

advocacy for sustainable mountain development in Asia and the Pacific.

 

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)

serves as the Secretariat of APMN and is responsible for coordinating the

activities of APMN including supporting regional institutions in capacity

building, registering and maintaining the membership database, and

facilitating information generation and exchange for sustainable mountain

development..

 

Under the general guidance of the Division Head, Knowledge Management

Support and Development, and direct supervision of the APMN Node Manager,

the intern will perform the following tasks:

 

* Assist the team in standardising contributors guidelines and collate

materials for the APMN Bulletin and develop two issues of the

Bulletin for publication in June and December 2008

* Actively look for content for the [mf-asiapacific] and [mf- centralasia]

lists, as well as for the APMN website and document relevant contents for

discussion

* Assist the team in exploring new areas of information dissemination

(particularly web and email based) like routine newsletters, new lists

etc. and draft concept notes

* Identify and interview mountain experts or mountain people on

mountain-specific themes and transcribe the same into English

* Support and coordinate with the ICIMOD communications and distribution

team to disseminate APMN/ICIMOD and Mountain Forum products

* Represent APMN/ICIMOD and Mountain Forum in various local events and

develop reports

* Take a lead in new areas of action in consultation with APMN Coordinator

and coordination with APMN Node Manager

* Update existing mailing list of APMN

* Other related duties as required

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

* Minimum Bachelor level or equivalent academic background in development

communications, development related social science, environmental science

or another relevant subject

* Understanding of and commitment to mountain development issues, and

excellent communication and networking skills

* Very good spoken and written English

* Ability to collate and summarise information

* Good computer and Internet searching skills

* Interest in communications in general and communication networks in

particular

 

Others:

 

Stipend: Rs. 10,000/month

 

Learning offered

 

* Development of reporting skills

* Learning/hands on experience in production of printed products

(newsletter) from materials collection through to print supervision

* Experience in Internet searching and focused identification of relevant

information

 

Duration: 12 months, beginning 1 February 2008
