krishnap 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Do Anybody have made some study or an idea on the study and career of Biomedical engineering. I have a hunch that this is a new field of study at least for Nepalse students, but I have no idea how is the scope of this in Nepal and abroad. If it is an attractive field of study then could anybody put some lights on the availability of course in suitable format to Nepalese. Looking for your responses. apala 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2004 krishnanp ji, Neither I am in this field nor it's my interest but as far I know about Biomedical Engineering, it's a good field which is newly popular among Nepalese students or in Nepal. My advice is; if anybody there who are interested to study Biomedical Engineering....go ahead! I have found one article about Biomedical Engineering. Please! have your look once; http://www.iospress.nl/html/boek445.html
linuxuser 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2004 Biomedical engg is a hot field anywhere in the world. This is one of my favorite field of study after double e. Genome and Genetic Science or Genetic engineering is another my favorite field. You actually get to mess around with human/animal genes using skills/power of Computer and tricks of Mathematics such as Permutation and combination
Limitation//Moon 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2004 (edited) QUOTE You actually get to mess around with human/animal genes using skills/power of Computer and tricks of Mathematics such as Permutation and combination you must be messing playing copulation with computer if not with human as well. That could be the way to go , BTW I donot know a single thing about biomedical engineering. Biometric way to trace the victim using the computer is the way to go Edited June 22, 2004 by rajunpl

linuxuser 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2004 (edited) hey kunp, thanks for the links. I have couple of questions if u dont mind answering. Since u r doing PHD in this field, do u have to have Biology or PreMed background ( Bachelor) to pursue Master's in bio med? What are some of the bio medical graduate do as a career? What are some distinctions among bio med, bio technology and genetics or genetic engg? is genetic engg part of bio medical engg? How is research opportunity or job prospective of this field here in US? btw u should be wearing NJ hat instead of NY? just kidding Edited August 18, 2004 by rs_1915

Since u r doing PHD in this field, do u have to have Biology or PreMed background ( Bachelor) to pursue Master's in bio med? -> Understanding basic Anatomy and Physiology of the body is essential to join MS in biomedical engineering. For those who have not taken those biology classes during undergrad can still join BME program but they have to take some pre-requisite biology classes. What are some of the bio medical graduate do as a career? -> http://www.ecse.monash.edu.au/centres/mucb...ng/bioeng2.html http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos262.htm What are some distinctions among bio med, bio technology and genetics or genetic engg? is genetic engg part of bio medical engg? How is research opportunity or job prospective of this field here in US? -> Biomedical engineering courses are based on mathematics so one can’t complete program without sound knowledge of math. Some universities have genetic engineering and biotechnology program under biomedical engineering dept - - these program heavily on math based. Also, one can do genetic engineering and biotechnology program through biology dept where program does not involve a lot of math.
okinawa 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2004 It would be better if you have an engineering background along with basic concepts of Image processing, Digital signal processing, basic electronics stuff and of course a deep knowledge of mathematics. linuxuser 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2004 (edited) thanks kunp and Oki, Biomedical engg sounds promising. I dont have experience in DSP, and electronics but i do have experience in Image Processing, Math, Since i have a bachelor in CS and minor in math. Actually i am really torn between pursuing my master on Computer Engg ( Embedded systems) and Biomedical or Genetic engg. I really have to decide soon!!!
