  1. Oh my god ! I slept too much (even when I have just slept 3 hour).
  2. I don't see what do you wan to tell. Again I can't see viability of PTA in the Universities. I don't know what is your idea, why are you bringing this here?
  3. Congratulation, Engineering in Strthclyde is best recognised. It is a very good department. I have got copuple of friends who did their Masters and Ph.D from there and are now teaching in good universities in UK an some are working in the industry. I am not from enginering, so i wouldn't be able to tell you about course and in more detail about the job prospects. But I have seen good product from there. Thank you very much. As per your advice I applied myself without any agent and got the offer. But to apply for visa, I think that I have to take an agent. What do you think? Is it tough to get visa? I have also applied to Dundee and is waiting for their decision. In case I will get an offer from Dundee also, what to do? Now,since I have already got the offer, so I want to try for getting some financial assistance(atleast partial) from the university. How should I proceed for it? Please advise. Hi, I do not think agent will have any hand on visa. But to be honest i have no idea how that works. Luckily, I never had any bad experience with visa for any place (Touch wood for future). Wwhen you have unconditional offer from good Public university such as strthclyde, I don't think you will have trouble with Visa. The embassy people should know the standard of University. Obiviously, you could expect probelm in Visa when your offer is from "Business college". Dundee and Strthclyde, for city prospect and job during your study, I think glassgow should have more chance. But really depends on what you want to achieve. Again Dundee might be bit cheaper than glassgow with erefrence to the living cost (rent, other costs are same everywhere). I have couple of friends living in Glassgow (They are not in academia and are not in engeeneering as well). Still they might be useful in many logistic aspects. I will forward you their contact detail when you come here. For financial assistance, the best way os to try with their international office. They do have pretty much good idea about what are available inside university. Unfortuanetely many of them available outside and inside uni are available for home students only. To be honest with you, University might have already allocated many of available funding fo rthis year. But still you shoul dwrite them. If trying through international office doesn't work, after you have joined try to get Research assiatnt work with some professors who do teach your course. Do not hesitate to ask them. You need work experience and they also need people to do literature search and tests and so on. I only had half funding when I was accepted but the research work covered living expenses for myself and family and also i got expereince. Your situation is bit different as you are accepted in taught course but still there might be some oppertunities. You just need to ask.
  4. It is a very vague question. if you are talking about USA, it would mean, "Parent-Teacher Association". In othe rpart it might mean anything from Public Transport Authority to "Pakistan Telecommunication authority". You can probably ask exactly what information you need for other people to be able to assist you. This is really really vague.

  6. Th emost reliable source of information would be Boarder and Immigration Authority . Other business sources might be ... Or Every university (Not Private and Bogus colleages) do have international student section in their website. They will have enough information about student visa and all. Try the website of the University you are applying to.
  7. Great I like the explanation of praying . It i snot only you who gets that question. I use to tell them that we see god in all creatures, living and non-living But your explanation is good. Unfrtutunately people who asked yoy that will never understand as they have their own dogma and fanaticism with them. Anyway, thnaks for sharing.
  8. Good Job Sanjeev, keep it up. I believe Nepal is party to Convention on Biological diversity. We do sign the conventions without even thinking about that. The principles needs to be looked upon if they can be (Definately they can) implemented. One more, Professor Kalus Bosselmann from University of Aukland has recently pusblished a book called "Principle of Sustainibility" (came out last mondayonly) in which he dfines what environmentally sustainable developement is? and how can a country (developing) can balance between the sutainability and developement goel. It is worth looking on that. I would't expect that to be available in Nepal at the moment but You might be able to find some pages on Google book preview as well. An article by Prof. Surya Subedi on "State Soveriegty and Natural Resources" , which was publised about a year and half ago, also deals with this issues to some extent.
  9. Dear Thirdpole, it is for you and for the information of all the others. The "Uk university league table 2008 published by Times online good university guide 2008" shows Newcastle in 23rd place and Dundee in 50. So overall Newcastle is better than Dundee. But the living cost in Dundee is very less as compared to Newcastle. Also if you see the job prospects for the Civil engineering graduates, Dundee has 9 out of 10 ,while Newcastle has only 7 out of 10 of its graduates placed in job after graduation. Whether an university is good or bad depends upon lots of factors. For me even if Newcastle is ahead of Dundee in the overall picture, Dundee is far better for studying Civil engineering because it has a record that 100% of its graduates got job after completion of the course last year. On the other hand, Newcastle has a very good reputation for the Subsea & Marine related courses. So a university which might be good for someone may be bad for somebody else. It depends upon the subject which you want to study, Job prospects, tuition costs, living costs etc. Ok now what I want to know is that after finishing the MSc there in UK, how many years do I have to stay in UK to get the UK passport and citizenship? Do I have to stay in UK continuously for those years(for example 5 or 6 years may be). What if I have to go back to nepal for some emergency purpose? You are right about University rating. Also check hero.ac.uk which is RAE (Research Assessment exercise) based. I know this is crap system but it is known as reliable one. 2008 RAE report is coming out soon but you can see 2001 RAE report for particular departments. UK Passport or citizenship. It doesn't really work that way. When you finish your masters, you will be given 2 year leave to remain under International Graduate Scheme (I hope it is not changed in this April/May), within that either you need to find a job and get work permit or you might be able to switch to Highly Skilled. In any case you will have to stay in UK for 5 year to apply for Indifinite leave to remain and once you get ILR, a year more to be eligible to apply for Passport. Your stay as student won't be counted for the purpose fo indifinite leave to remain. If you are under Highly skilled and if you have to leave UK for any reason you can come back to UK within 2 year and you have to start that 5 year again. If you are leaving UK for less than 90 days that doesn't effect. if it is more than 90 days, I suppose you have to complete that 90 days. if you are in work permit, once you leave the job you are given work permit, you will loose right to abode as well. It is bit complicated. I don't really work on that area although I am in Law School. There are couple of people in WNSO who works in those area. I hope they will reply you clearly.
  10. I don't think they will accept IELTS 6.5 for Ph.D. Check it with the University, it could be 7 or 7.5 And also, try to find perspective supervisor who has interetst in your issue. That is the fast track fro Ph. D. For Masters you have to follow the normal program anyway. If you are looking for funsing as well, then check at jobs.ac.uk if any Universities are advertising GTAship or Research fellowship in the area. Good luck Thank you all for your comments and informations. I think I had written that I want to do MSc (not Ph.D). I got 101 in TOEFL(iBT) which is equivalent to 7 in IELTS:this is well above the score required by the universities for my purpose. I want to know whether making an online application solely by myself or applying through an Educational agency/consultancy would be better in terms of chances of being admitted to a good university. Does applying through an agency/consultancy give better credibility to my application? Applying through Agency or consultance sometime damage the credibility depending upon the previous students came through that channel. But if you apply yourself, your application will be looked onto on your own personal circumstances. So I would strongly advise you to approach yourself. Moreover, if you aplly yourself, you might be able to request for funding if available, but if you are applying through an agency, most university will not consider funding requests. To be honest, good Universities in UK will not have such a thing called "authentic agent". They migh tbe working with some consultancies but they do not have any inflence in slection process. The so called agent will have relationship with international office in most of the Universities but selections are made by the actual department. I have closely seen student recruitment and selection process on which most of the students who apllied on their own with good academic background got preference. Agency or consultancies are alwyas a money making business. If it is something like foundation or undergraduate level, it is good to apply through an agency not for Postgraduate. You seems to have a very good academic backgroud. So apply on your own.

  12. I am aware that its rare to find people who can help me with my query. Thank u for your reply although I am not sure how much it helped me. Thanks again for being with me without knowing who I am. I have some working relationship with Newcasle but unfortuantely I am not from there and know very little about your area of interest. I am working in the area of Law and Biotechnology and I am in sheffield which is near newcastle. As a place, Newcastle is very nice and student service of the University is brillient. Some of my students are now studying in Newcastle. Duddee is also a very good University in ranking. Must eb very good. If you want to get any particular logistic information about Newcastle, you can directly e-mail me. I don't check in the forum regularly due to various reason
  13. We normally use Guardian and Independent. They are more academic and standard. Star and Metro also will have jobs and others but professional jobs are advertised in Guardian. They have specific days for kind of jobs. For example, academic teaching jobs are advertised in Mondays. Academic jobs are also advertised in jobs.ac.uk. If you need any help anything while you are in UK, do not hesitate to drop a line. Although I am 200 miles away from London, you can expect hand in any kind of problems (I keep my finger crossed). I can be reached at Y.Upadhyay@sheffield.ac.uk.
  14. Most accept any plastics in UK. Maestro, Any credit cards any plastic. Euro is widely accepted. So do not need to exachange currency. In a city like London, You can spend any amount. So very hard to tell you how uch you need for 5 days. If you haven't booked hotel, then I will probably estimate about 40 Pounds for hotel room and about the same for food and trasnport. You could do with about £100 Per day. This will probably be sifficient for you. Honestly will depend on yourself. You might be able to manage in less than that as well. If you haven't already got job here, try to find job before you move. After moving, you will need to do anything. Which wil be hard for you.
