Job description


The successful candidate will study Holocene and historical changes of nutrient loading in Northwest European lakes by applying diatom-based nutrient inference models that describe the relationship between the occurrence of aquatic siliceous algae (diatoms) and water chemistry.


Required education/skills: University Graduate
We are looking for a self-motivated student with a Master's degree in palaeobiology, palaeoecology, palaeolimnology, phycology or related fields. Experience in palaeolimnological fieldwork, algal (diatom) taxonomy and multivariate statistics are desirable.

The Faculty of Biology at the Utrecht University in the Netherlands is a modern faculty with disciplines covering nearly the complete field of biology. The Department of Palaeoecology, Laboratory of Palaeobotany and Palynology, wishes to appoint a PhD student to join our interdisciplinary research team at Utrecht University.

Conditions of employment

Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2000 - 2500

Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 2394
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: 4 years
Maximum hours per week: 40

Additional conditions of employment:
We offer a full-time temporary position for maximum 4 years, preferably commencing in March 2005.
The salary is € 1.813,- bruto p/m in the first year and increases to € 2.394,- in the fourth and final year (gross). The yearly salary is supplemented by an additional holiday bonus of 8%.

Salary and additional benefits (e.g. pension scheme, health insurance allowance) are based on the Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch Universities (AiO level).
