newapasa 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2007 (edited) Third NRN global conference kicks off Kantipur Report KATHMANDU, Oct 15 - The third global conference of NRN (Non-residential Nepali) Association started at the Birendra International Convention Centre in the capital Monday. Speaking at the three-day conference organized jointly by the government, NRN Association - International Coordination Council and the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), PM Koirala committed to extend supporting hands to the issues raised by NRNs. The Prime Minister further said he was positive towards the demands of the NRNs, and directed the concerned government agencies to consult the NRNs while drafting the laws related to them. Some 400 NRN representatives from over 40 countries are participating in the conference, which will formulate new NRN policies and elect a new leadership of the Non-resident Nepali Association International Coordination Council (NRNA). The NRNs have been putting forth their demands including dual citizenship, voting right in proposed CA elections and enact laws to facilitate NRN investment in Nepal. Speaking at the occasion, Foreign Minister Pradhan said the government was willing to work in close cooperation with the NRNs for socio-economic development of the country and stressed the need for constructive role of NRNs in making the current political transformation a success. President of the NRNA ICC Dr Upendra Mahato urged the government to review the NRN act which he said is incomplete insofar as the issues related to migrant workers and students are related. He added that the shortcomings in the act can be rectified in the upcoming regulations According to Mahato, NRNs have already invested an estimated of $300 million in health, education, hydropower, banking, IT and others. FNCCI president Chandi Raj Dhakal informed that the Nepali private sector has been working in coordination with the NRNs to facilitate their various activities in Nepal. He also asked the government to ensure consistency in government policies, which creates Investment-friendly environment in the country. Foreign secretary Gyan Chandra Acharya informed that the formulation of NRN Regulations is underway and assured that this will address the remaining issues of the NRNs. "The outcomes of the global conference would also be incorporated while finalising the regulations," he said adding that the law would come very soon. Hope this conference to settle down the diffrences through dialouge and excitingly the amount invested on many sectors seems huge . The representation of NRN in constituent assembly election and development is crucial for New Samridha Nepal .It is postive signal from them (NRN) have invested capital and financial resources in Develoment sectors . If new projects with opportunities for the young people are revised by them (NRN) , for various purposes . Certainly the development is near to us .
